Maleesha Kharwa, a 15-year-old resident of Dharavi, Mumbai, has become the prominent face of a prestigious luxury beauty brand, Forest Essentials. Forest Essentials is a renowned ayurvedic skincare brand from India, which recently chose Maleesha as their new ‘Yuvati’ and unveiled her to the world in March this year. Maleesha frequently shares glimpses of her life with her 230,000 Instagram followers, often using the hashtag #theprincessfromtheslum.

This collaboration holds a deeper significance as it aims to empower underprivileged children by providing them with education and helping them realise their aspirations. A recent heartwarming video shared by Forest Essentials captured Maleesha’s joyful reaction on her visit to the store that was featuring her campaign photos. The video received widespread attention, garnering over 6.2 million views since its release on April 4. The video was captioned as: “Her face lit up with pure delight. To see her dreams in front of her in sight. Maleesha’s story is a beautiful reminder that dreams really do come true.” 

This video evoked a strong emotional response from viewers. Many viewers expressed their admiration in the comments, praising Maleesha’s recognisable face and natural beauty while commending Forest Essentials for providing her with an opportunity to shine. Some even urged the brand to embrace Maleesha’s dreams as their own and support her in achieving great heights.

In 2020, Maleesha had the chance to meet Hollywood actor Robert Hoffman, who established a Go Fund Me page to assist her in pursuing her dreams. The page sheds light on Maleesha’s struggles, including the lack of basic necessities such as food, water, and proper shelter during the monsoon season. Through this initiative, efforts were being made to improve her circumstances and provide her with a brighter future.
