On Sunday, Serena Williams wins her 23rd Grand Slam as she defeats Jessica Pegula, her fellow American Tennis player, in the Women’s Single finals at ASB Classic, Auckland, New Zealand. She also ended a 3 year draught after winning this title.
Also, this is the first title that Williams won as a mother, she was blessed with a baby girl in September, 2017 and named her Alexis Olympia Ohanian Junior.
As she won the title, it was revealed that she will be donating the entire winning pay cheque of $43,000 (over Rs. 30 lakh) in making an effort to help the Australians fight the major problem of wildfire, which is causing gigantic destruction in the country.

William’s husband, Alexis Ohanian who is the Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of social news website Reddit, expressed how proud he was by his wife’s decision of donating the prize money.
On Instagram, he said “What a start to the decade, @serenawilliams we’re all so proud of you. And just when I think I can’t possibly be more proud, you donate all your prize money to fight the #australianbushfires”.
Since September 2019, the wildfire in Australia have destroyed over 3,000 homes, over 400 million wildlife have also been affected. Additionally the fauna of the country has been affected at large.
At least 28 people have lost their lives in the wildlife, and many are stuck behind the fires with depleting resources and no means to contact people for help.
Number of celebrities from all over the globe have come in front to help Australia at the time of need and donated money for tackling the wildfire and helping the victims.
Apart from Serena Williams donating her prize money to help fight the bushfire in Australia, celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Kylie Minogue, and Chris Hemsworth have too donated money.
Post the Golden Globe awards, reports said Phoebe Waller-Bridge, actor in Fleabag, would auction the dress she wore to the function and donate the money for combating the bushfire in Australia.

Rapper Lizzo recently was seen helping people who were affected by the
wildfires and volunteered at a local food bank. He did this while he was on a
tour in Australia and was on a tight schedule.
On Facebook, Foodbank Victoria wrote “We had the one and only Lizzo helping us sort and pack hampers in the warehouse today!”.
Even celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay helped the foodbank.
