The victory brought Barcelona closer to their El Clasico counterpart Real Madrid for the race of the title, they meet in three weeks.

After 8 games, Lionel Messi scores his first goal for FC Barcelona in La Liga beating Sevilla 4-0 on Saturday, climbing its way to the second position. Ronald Araujlo and Ousmane Dembele were sent off two minutes apart from eachother. Barcelona will meet Real Madrid for the El Clasico at Camp Nou.

Julen Lopetegui Argote led Sevilla had a good start but failed to convert their chances whereas, the Catalans converted three chances in under 8 minutes sending Sevilla on the defensive for the rest of the game.

Julen’s Sevilla side failed to make a mark at three clear chances, Dutch striker, Luuk de Jong was denied by Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Brazilian midfielder Fernando missed the mark. In early second half, De Jong again missed the opportunity to score, hitting the goal post, out of 16 attempts only 4 were on target compared to Barca attempting 15 times and 8 on target.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez took the lead with his fantastic overhead kick, putting the ball into the net in the 27th minute of the match with a wonderful assist coming from Nelson, Vidal scores a goal at 32nd minute, doubling the lead with an assist from Arthur.

Antonine Griezmann did not play the match despite being a staggering 120 million Euro transfer cost, instead went ahead with Dembele who scored the third goal for the Catalans in the 35th minute with another assist coming from Arthur. Barca captain Lionel Messi scored hist first goal of the season with a free kick 78 minutes into the game.

Uruguayan defender Ronald replaced injured Jean Todibo in the 70th minute, making his debut for the Catalans, but was sent off due to a challenge made on Sevilla’s Javir Hernandez, Dembele soon followed his way to the bench for protesting referee’s decision. Referee Antonia Lahoz commented on his decision of giving a red card was because of Dembele’s remarks ‘very bad, you are very bad’ and waving his arms at him. The forward will miss Barca’s next La Liga match with Eibar and could miss his match in the El Clasico as players have been handed a two game ban in the past who have passed similar remarks to the referees.

Vidal: We are the Worthy Winners

Vidal, who scored the second goal for the Catalans said they deserved this victory, claiming ‘We were superior to them the whole time, we were always putting them under pressure and we are worthy winners. We were up against a team who are good with the ball and on the wings but we dominated them in those areas’.

Lopetegui’s last visit to Camp Nou was a nightmare too, coaching Real Madrid then lost 5-1 to Barca. Lopetegui says ‘It is a crushing and underserved defeat, we played well, we were brave and we tried to do what we had worked on in training but we couldn’t take our chances’. Fernando added ‘We had so many chances to score, but if you switched off for on second at Camp Nou you are punished’.
