Rohit would be leading the team as captain for the last two ODIs. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, India’s usual skipper, will not be there for the game owing to family obligations. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya, who has led the T20 team superbly, will fill in for him while he is away, giving him another opportunity to solidify his position as the front-runner to succeed Rohit Sharma as captain.
The hosts suffered a major setback following the middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer’s decision to miss the entire series on account of a back injury sustained during the fourth and final Test against Australia in Ahmedabad.
