The decision was announced by the President of the saffron party J P Nadda in a statement.
Adesh Gupta, who will immediately take charge of the office has been a mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and will replace actor-politician Manoj Tiwari, a member of Lok Sabha, at the helm in BJP Delhi.
Adesh Gupta said, “I’m thankful to PM Narendra Modi, JP Nadda and other senior leaders of the party for appointing a humble party worker like me to the post of state party president,” and added, “It will be challenging to expand and consolidate the party base in view of the coronavirus pandemic.” after his presidency was announced.
Earlier, when BJP lost the Delhi Assembly elections to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Manoj Tiwari offered to quit.
The saffron party has also announced the tribal leader and the former Union Minister Vishnu Deo Sai as the President of BJP Chhattisgarh and will replace Vikram Usendi.
Sai was a Union Minister in the 1st government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, could not contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls after BJP decided to not repeat any of party’s sitting MPs (Members of Parliament) in Chhattisgarh after it lost assembly polls to Congress.
In another appointment announcement, S Tikendra Singh will lead BJP in Manipur as he has been given the post of President.
These are the first important organisational appointments in the BJP after the coronavirus outbreak curbed political activities and the party primarily focussed on steering relief work for people affected by the lockdown. The development signals, to some extent, a return of regular political activities as lockdown restrictions across the country are relaxed.
