- The US President talks about a cure of CoVID-19
- The US is the worst hit country by this pandemic
In a a recent observation made by a top US official said that the novel Coronavirus is quickly destroyed by sunlight led by the President of the US suggesting a method to fight the deadly virus – injecting patients with disinfectants.
As the US president made the statement at the White House, it took no time for the netizens to pick it up and spread it, with researchers and scientists criticising him heavily.
William Bryan, the science and technology advisor to the Department of Homeland Security secretary told the reporters that at the White House, the US Government scientists have found that UltraViolet (UV) rays have a potent impact on the pathogen. This offered hope to people that the spread of the virus may be be slowed as summers will hit the nation.
He said, “Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus, both surfaces and in the air,”.
As Bryan was done with his address, President Trump said he wonders if the human body could be cleansed by a “very powerful light”.
President Trump said, “So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous – whether it’s ultraviolet or just a very powerful light – and I think you said that hasn’t been checked because of the testing,”.
On Thursday, President Trump said that in the US testing for the COVID-19 is “very advanced” that other countries and they have tested more people than any other country in the world. Speaking at the daily White House briefing, Trump said that in two weeks different forms of testing will be rolled out.
He added, “And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that, too, sounds interesting,”. Also in attendance was Dr Deborah Brix, White House Coronavirus task force coordinator. People tweeted videos of her surprised expression when President Trump was speaking.
Without explaining the type of disinfectants he was talking about, President Trump said, I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that… It sounds interesting to me,”.
It has been long known that the UV light has a sterilizing effect because the radiation damages Coronaviru’s genetic material and its ability to replicate, however UV light can cause skin itching and other problems to humans.
William Bryan shared a slide to summarize the findings of the experiment which was undertaken at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Centre in Maryland. It showed that the virus’ half-life – the time taken for the virus to reduce to half its amount – was 18 hours when the temperature was between 21 and 24 Degree Celsius with 20% humidity in the ambience on a non-porous surface.
This included things like door handles and stainless steel.
However, the half-life of the virus dropped down to just 6 hours when the humidity rose to 80% and to just 2 minutes when the sunlight was added to this equation. But what raises the questions is the fact that the experiment paper has not been released for reviewing yet which makes it difficult for independent experts to comment on how accurate the methodology used was.
