The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has detained Sushant Singh Rajput’s roommate Siddharth Pithani, nearly a year after the actor’s death in Mumbai, which is being investigated by numerous agencies.
On June 14, Siddharth Pithani was one of four people who were present at Sushant Singh Rajput’s Mumbai apartment when he was found hanging in his room. He was detained in Hyderabad by the anti-drugs agency and transferred to Mumbai today, where a court sent him to judicial custody till June 1. Officials claimed a police team had gone looking for him after he failed to appear after many summons.
Documents and electronic evidence were discovered at his Hyderabad house, according to the police.
Mr Pithani was interrogated by the Mumbai police and the CBI several times in connection with the death, which enthralled the nation, sparked several conspiracy theories, and caused a big divide in the Mumbai film industry.
So far, 34 persons have been charged in the drugs case that sprang from the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, including Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik.
After texts involving the actor’s drug purchase were discovered on Rhea Chakraborty’s phone, the Narcotics Control Bureau was called in to investigate.
The probe grew into a wider investigation into the link between Bollywood and drugs. Many celebrities and A-list actors were also questioned.
Siddharth Pithani who is an IT professional, had told multiple news outlets about the actor’s final moments, and he had been questioned by multiple agencies about his side of the story.
Mr Pithani had been living with Sushant Rajput for almost a year before his death, and was reputedly dubbed “Buddha” by him. In the days and weeks following the actor’s untimely death, his charges fueled a media frenzy and speculation.
In September of last year, he was interrogated by the CBI more than half a dozen times.
