The second largest population on Earth is dealing with the second wave of the deadly Coronavirus and the cyber fraudsters who are now taking advantage of the situation of con people looking to get themselves tested for COVID-19.

The deadly virus which spread very quickly has led to a heavy rush at both civic as well as state-run hospitals because of which, many citizens are now opting for private laboratories for Covid-related tests, say officials.

People have been trying to look for private labs near their homes via their computers and mobile devices.

The cyber scammers take advantage of the situation and fear in people’s minds and pose to offer a home visit to collect samples for test. They then cheat the people by either sending a fake negative report or going under the radar and becoming untraceable.

As the cases of such scams started coming to attention, Hemant Nagrale, the Mumbai Police Commissioner, on Friday, urged the citizens of the city to get their COVID-19 tests done only at the ICMR-approved laboratories.

Taking it to Twitter, Nagrale tried to create awareness about COVID-19-related tests and how one can save himself from getting fleeced.

The Mumbai top cop wrote, “Testing Times! Cyber criminals, taking advantage of rising demand for Covid-19 tests, are posing to be lesser known labs providing testing – even going to the extent of collecting samples and then sending no or fake reports,” from his official Twitter handle.
