Maharashtra Government Formation News: Today morning 288 MLAs took oath in the Maharashtra Assembly with Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis amongst the ones who initiated the ceremony. Ajit Pawar was warmly welcomed by his cousin Supriya Sule, who is Sharad Pawar’ daughter, with a hug. Some of the NCP Leaders said that Ajit Pawar apologised to Sharad Pawar and is now a member of NCP.
Uddhav Thackeray, Chairperson Shiv Sena, will be formally sworn in as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra after the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (Shive Sena-NCP-Congress alliance) declared him as their choice for the post of CM. Yesterday Devendra Fadnavis resigned from the post of the Chief Minister who took the oath just last Saturday (23rd November 2019) and tomorrow Uddhav Thackeray will become the new CM of Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar too resigned from the post of Deputy Chief Minister yesterday.
The three Parties (NCP-Shiv Sena- Congress) together as an alliance staked claim to form a government in Maharashtra as they met BS Koshyari, Governor, and formally submitted the letter holding the support of 166 MLAs. To form the government a party or alliance needs 145/288 seats.
Last time Maharashtra had a CM from the Shiv Sena was 20 years ago was Narayan Rane, and it will be the third time a CM will be appointed from the Shiv Sena. Additionally, it will be the first time a member of Thackeray family will hold the position of the Chief Minister.
One Deputy Chief Minister will be appointed from both Congress and the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party).
The victory for Shiv Sena was turned bitter sweet when senior leader, who was associated with the party from the past 21 years quit on Tuesday evening. The leader, Ramesh Solanki, who was also the member of its IT Cell has quit saying Shiv Sena and his ideology do not match any longer. He said as Shiv Sena join hands with Congress and Nationalist Congress Party to form the government in the state, he is confronted by his conscience, he says his ideology does not allow him to work with the Congress Party.
