Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar recently took to Instagram and shared an apology note mentioning that he was stepping down as brand ambassador of the Vimal Elaichi tobacco brand. This came shortly after the star was subjected to massive trolling by the netizens for his association with the pan masala brand. “I am sorry,” he wrote, adding that he has been deeply impacted by the reactions of his fans and well-wishers over the past few days.
While announcing his disassociation with the brand, he penned down a note saying that he immensely respects the outpouring of the feelings from his fans in light of his tobacco endorsement and will contribute the fee towards a worthy cause. Additionally, the Khiladi superstar said that while the brand might pursue airing the ads on account of the legal binding, he pledged to be more mindful of his choices in the future.
For the unversed, Akshay was the latest Bollywood star, after Ajay Devgn and Shahrukh Khan to make his way into the ‘Vimal Universe’. He was seen sharing screen space with the aforementioned duo in an ad to endorse a cardamom product of a tobacco company.

However, the audience went down heavily on Akshay Kumar soon after the ad went on air as they saw their favourite star promoting hazardous products. Countless fans took to social media platforms to share an old video of the star where he can be seen speaking with fervour about his aversion to alcohol, cigarettes and other similar products.
