  • A video showing Jawed Habib spitting on the head of a lady has gone viral.
  • The incident happened at a seminar led by Jawed Habib in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Jawed Habib apologised for the incident on Instagram.

Jawed Habib, a popular hairstylist, has been booked for reportedly spitting on a woman during an event in Muzaffarnagar.

Following a complaint submitted at the Mansurpur police station, a First Information Report was filed under Provisions 355 (assault) and 504 (causing harm) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as relevant sections of the Epidemic Act.

According to authorities, a private event on hair care was held four days ago at Muzaffarnagar’s King Villa Hotel, with Jawed Habib as the special guest. A hairdresser can be seen spitting on a woman’s head while giving her a haircut in a video that has gone viral on various social media platforms.

Jawed can be heard stating on the alleged video, the authenticity of which could not be confirmed, “If there is no water, you can simply spit…this spit has life.”

However, the lady eventually issued a statement accusing Jawed Habib of misbehaviour. “I own a beauty salon and was attending a Jawed Habib seminar.” I was summoned on the stage for a haircut. He was rude to me. “He said that if you don’t have water, you can cut your hair using spit,” said Pooja Gupta, a resident of Baraut. Later, the lady filed a complaint against the hairdresser.

The National Commission on Women was also made aware of the incident and advised the authorities to take appropriate action. Protests were also conducted against the hairdresser on Thursday. The Hindu Jagran Manch, a right-wing organisation, burned hair stylist effigies and demanded his arrest.

The hair stylist, on the other hand, apologised in a video posted on Instagram: “Some words spoken during the event have seemed to hurt people. These sessions are attended by professionals and they are usually long. Sometimes, you have to maintain the humour. Despite that, I will say it from my heart that if you were hurt, please forgive me.”
