Release Hydroxychloroquine order, US President Donald Trump Requests PM Modi

The President of the United States, Donal Trump said that he has requested the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to release the order of the US for Hydroxychloroquine after India banned the exports of drugs last month.

Trump said that on Saturday morning he had talked to PM Modi and made a request to release the Hydroxychloroquine for the United States.

At the daily news conference on Saturday at the White House, President Trump said, “I called Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. They make large amounts of Hydroxychloroquine. India is giving it a serious consideration,”.

On the 25th of March, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade had banned the export of Hydroxychloroquine, however, said that certain shipments may be allowed on humanitarian grounds on case to case basis.

As of today, the US has reported more than 3 lakh cases of Coronavirus, that is more than any other country in the world, also the US reported deaths of close to 8,500 people due to this deadly virus. Following this, the US has come forward as the new epicentre and the worst hit country in the World for this deadly virus.

As of now, the cure for COVID-19 has not been found.

Scientists across the globe, and particularly in the US are in a race against time to find a vaccine or at least a therapeutic cure to this virus which has infected over 12 lakh people and killed close to 65,000 people in over 200 countries.

Based on the initial results, the Trump administration is heavily banking on the use of Hydroxychloroquine which is a decades-old drug for Malaria in order to treat Coronavirus in the US.

Last Saturday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the US gave a quick, however only a provisional approval for the use of Hydroxychloroquine along with a combination of some other drugs for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in New York.

Trump has claimed that the drug is proving effective, and if it becomes successful, it will be nothing short of a boon from heaven, he told reporters.

In the coming weeks, the health experts project that in the US Coronavirus can cause between 1 lakh and 2 lakh deaths as due to human to human transmission the virus is spreading like a wildfire in the US.

In anticipation that it could be a successful drug which can treat Coronavirus, the US has stockpiled close to 29 million doses already. It is because of this that the US President has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help the US and release the doses of Hydroxychloroquine as this drug is mass produced in India.

Trump said the release of the drug will be appreciated.

He said, “And I said I would appreciate if they (India) would release the amounts that we ordered,” however he did not mention the quantity he has ordered from companies in India.

The Trump administration has also added Hydroxychloroquine as part of the country’s Strategic National Stockpile. Trump said that, if needed, he will take Hydroxychloroquine.

“I think people should if it were me, in fact, I might do it anyway. I may take it, Ok? I may take it. And, I’ll have to ask my doctors about that, but I may take it,” he said in response to a question.
