On Friday, India’s Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at Congress Chief, Sonia Gandhi over her statement on BJP pertaining the violence in Delhi that has engulfed the NorthEast region of the national capital since Sunday. He said that the opposition should not lecture the party in power about its duties when Congress’ record has been questionable.
Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Shreemati (Ms.) Sonia Gandhi, please don’t preach us ‘Raj Dharma’ (Rulers’ Duty). Your record is full of rapid violations, twists and turns for plain and simple vote bank politics,”.
Mr. Prasad also replied to the criticism over the proactive speech of BJP leader Kapil Mishra which is said to have triggered the clashes in Delhi and also the failure of Delhi Police Department in containing the violence which has left at least 42 dead and around 250 injured, which directly reports to the Union Home Minister of India, Amit Shah.
Mr, Prasad commenting on Kapil Mishra’s speech said, “Party has not approved of such comments. Senior party leaders have publicly condemned it,” adding “The Home Minister was proactive since Day 1. Action will be taken against those responsible.”
Mr. Prasad also said that The Bhartiya Janata Party “condemns in the strongest possible terms the pure politicking by the Congress party during such a sensitive issue where we all need to talk collectively about peace, harmony,”.
After Sonia Gandhi met the President of India, Ram Nath kovind, along with many party leaders, yesterday said that Amit Shah must be sacked for “abdicating” his duties. She also said that both the governments – Central and Delhi – have only been “mute spectators” of the violence.

In a memorandum to the President of India, the Congress party said, “Rashtrapati Ji (Honourable President) you are given the highest possible responsibility under the Constitution of India: to act as the conscience keeper of this Government and to remind it of its Constitutional duty and the pillars of Raj Dharma, by which any just government must abide,”.
The term “Raj Dharma” has become thorny for the saffron party ever since it was used by the Former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at a news conference in 2002 saying that then Chief Minister Narendra Modi must be just while performing his duties and no discrimination should be done based on religion, caste, or creed.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, too, was a part of this Congress’ delegation, and had said that “We urged the President to use his power to protect Raj Dharma.”
Since Monday, the violence in Delhi took a communal road and the police were accused of failing to tackle the riots on the streets which included stone pelting, looting, killing, burning or properties, and whatnot.
Targeting the BJP and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sonia Gandhi said, “The centre and the newly-elected Delhi government were mute spectators to the violence.”
The Congress party has formed a team of 5 members that will visit the affected areas, and then submit a detailed report directly to her.
