Former Indian Cricket team captain, Kapil Dev has criticised Virat Kohli let Indian cricket team after they were defeated in the Test series opener against New Zealand in Wellington. India lost the game by 10 wickets on Monday at Basin Reserve stadium. While talking to ABP News, Kapil Dev said, “We have to praise New Zealand, they are playing very good cricket. The three ODIs and this Test match, they have been excellent.
If we analyse this match critically, well, I do not understand how one can make so many changes. There is a new team in almost every match. No one in the team is permanent, if there is no security over your place, it will affect the form of the players,”.
Even though the Indian batting line up was boosted by the like of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Cheteshwar Pujara, India failed to put up a respectable score on the board at Basin Reserve. This is a reason that even the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, admitted for the downfall for team India against the Kiwis.
Kapil Dev added, “Such big names in the batting order, if you cannot score even 200 runs in 2 innings, you have not been able to conquer conditions. You have to focus more on planning and strategy,”.
In the T20 series, New Zealand were thrashed in the 5 match series as Indian won 5-0, however, in the three ODI series, New Zealand came back strong and won it 3-0. Not just this, the balck caps have also won the 1st test match in the 2 test series.
Kapil Dev was flabbergasted with seeing KL Rahul sitting on the bench for the Test match. KL Rahul was the Player of the Series for the 5 match T20 series.
Kapil Dev said, “I do not understand. There is a lot of difference between when we played and what is happening now. When you build a team, you have to give confidence to players. When there are so many changes made, it does not make sense. Management believes in format-specific players. Rahul is in great form, he is sitting out, it does not make sense. I believe when a player is in form, he needs to play,”.
Team India will not aim to level the Test series and the New Zealand tour by winning the 2nd and last Test match starting on 29th February 2020 at the Hagley Oval stadium in Christchurch.
