Uber Technologies Inc., is facing major criticism after Dara Khosrowshahi (CEO) called that Jamal Khashoggi, journal and columnist of The Washington Post, and GM and Editor in chief of Al-Arab News Channel murder was a ‘Mistake’. He compared his assassination to the death of a pedestrian that’s hit by Uber’s autonomous vehicles, in an interview with Axios on HBO.
Upon later realising, he said that he made a mistake and regretted the choice of word. He even tweeted saying, there is no forgetting or forgiving as to what had happened to Jamal Khashoggi, and he was wrong for calling it a mistake.
#BoycottUber has been gaining hits across all social media platforms, till date the #BoycottUber has been used over 10,000 times on Twitter alone due to Khosrowshahi’s comment on Khashoggi’s assassination. People are saying that the company’s CEO is dismissing Khashoggi’s gruesome assassination to avoid brining company’s one of the biggest investor into limelight.
Saudi Arabia’s The Public Investment Fund (also called Sovereign Wealth Fund) is the 5th biggest stakeholder of Uber, holding shares worth almost $1.9 billion.
Khosrowshahi went on to twitter admitting to his mistake saying, ‘I said something in the moment I don’t believe’.
There’s no forgiving or forgetting what happened to Jamal Khashoggi & I was wrong to call it a “mistake.” As I told @danprimack after our interview, I said something in the moment I don’t believe. Our investors have long known my views here & I’m sorry I wasn’t as clear on Axios https://t.co/RxapzktrXq

Karen Attiah, Global Opinions editor at The Washington Post used her Twitter handle to show repugnance by writing ‘Not only is he running cover for the Saudi government by saying the pre-planned murder of a @washingtonpost writer was a “mistake”, he compares the murder of a human being to Uber making a tech glitch’.
I need everyone to pay attention to what @Uber CEO @dkhos is saying here.

Not only is he running cover for the Saudi government by saying the pre-planned murder of a @washingtonpost writer was a “mistake”, he compares the murder of a human being to Uber making a tech glitch. https://t.co/qsFJhS6yVy
Also she continues by pointing out the irony as Khashoggi used to take Uber to commute around the Washington/Virginia area along with the insensitivity of Uber’s CEO.
Jamal Khashoggi used @Uber to get around in Washington/Virginia area. He didn’t have a car for a while when he went into self exile.

The sick and sad irony of Uber CEO @dkhos calling his murder by the Saudi regime a “mistake”. That we should consider forgiveness. #BoycottUber
Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated in Istanbul, Turkey, in the Saudi Consulate and according to the investigations conducted by the CIA, the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia is involved.
