On Monday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Assembly Election which will be held in 5 states next month. The national poll body announced the dates for elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram.
Mizoram will go to polls on November 7 while people from Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and 17. Elections will be held on 17th November in Madhya Pradesh, polls in Rajasthan on November 25 and Telangana on November 30.
The results of the Assembly Elections for all 5 states will be declared on the 3rd of December,
Madhya Pradehs which is governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will elect legislators from 230 constituencies while the Congress-led Rajasthan Assembly comprises of 200 seats.
In Telangana, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will face off against the BJP and the Congress over 119 Assembly seats.
Chhattisgarh assembly will have 90 seats and will see a fierce battle between BJP and Congress. In Mizoram, too, the 40-seat will mainly be fought for by BJP and Congress to get a foothold as the state is currently led by Mizo National Front (MNF).

The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, said “The Election Commission will decide on J&K elections at right time while keeping in mind security situation and other elections there,” when asked about the Assembly Elections Date 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.

After the dates for polls were announced for 5 states, Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Indian National Congress, went to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “With the announcement of elections in 5 states, the farewell of BJP and its allies has also been announced.
“In Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram, the Congress party will go to the people with strength.
“Public welfare, social justice and progressive development are the guarantees of the Congress Party.”

The dates of the Rajasthan election have been rescheduled from November 23rd to November 25th, in accordance with the decision of the Election Commission. This adjustment takes into account the significant number of weddings and social events scheduled for November 23, which could potentially inconvenience a large portion of the population, pose logistical challenges, and result in reduced voter participation during the polls.
