In preparation for the upcoming West Bengal assembly election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda will attend a BJP core group meeting on Wednesday.
Bengal BJP MP Mukul Roy, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, and other top BJP leaders are expected to attend the crucial meeting, according to sources. The BJP core group will meet today to discuss the names of possible party candidates for the state’s first and second phases of assembly elections.
“The core committee discussed candidates for phase 1 and 2 polls. It will be revealed as soon as possible. We also discussed Prime Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and Yogi Adityanath’s upcoming election rallies in the state,” West Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak at about 20 election rallies in West Bengal, where voters will vote in eight phases for 294 Assembly seats from March 27 to April 29. The counting of election votes will be held on May 2.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, and JP Nadda, the BJP’s national president, are both scheduled to speak at about 50 rallies in West Bengal. According to a BJP source, the Prime Minister will also talk at six to seven rallies in Assam, which will vote in three phases on March 27, April 1, and April 6.
Modi will stage his first rally in West Bengal on March 7 at Kolkata’s Brigade parade ground, marking the end of the party’s “Poribortan Yatra.”

According to a senior party official, “Prime Minister Modi is both the country’s and the BJP’s most famous leader. He will personally reach out as many voters as possible across the state, encouraging them to vote for the BJP in order to help West Bengal grow. In West Bengal, the Prime Minister will hold about 20 rallies. A couple of more rallies will be scheduled if we have more time.”
According to a BJP leader in West Bengal, the party’s state unit would provide area-specific inputs for the Prime Minister’s election speeches, such as issues pertaining to a specific area or region.
The BJP leader in West Bengal also said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi would discuss national and state concerns, as well as local issues, at his rallies.” According to a senior BJP official, the BJP expects 10 lakh people to attend Modi’s rally at the Brigade parade ground. The BJP has already begun a door-to-door campaign to persuade people to attend the March 7 rally.
Another BJP leader said, ” The Bengal unit of the BJP has also instructed its booth-level workers to ensure that voters from their respective booths attend the March 7 rally.”
In the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections last year, the Prime Minister spoke at around a dozen election rallies as a star BJP campaigner. Shah, who is actively overseeing the preparations in West Bengal, and Nadda, according to another senior BJP official, will address about 50 rallies each.
“Amit Shah and the party’s president, J.P. Nadda, both paid regular visits to West Bengal. They each flagged off the party’s Poribortan Yatra, which covered the state’s 294 Assembly segments. They will now campaign heavily in the state in order to win votes for the party’s candidates, “he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP’s national General Secretary and West Bengal in-charge, Kailash Vijayvargiya, state unit chief Dilip Ghosh, and other senior leaders visited the Brigade parade ground on Tuesday to oversee the rally’s preparations.
After an impressive show in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, where it won 18 seats, the party has set a target of winning over 200 seats to unseat Mamata Banerjee’s government.
