The president was tested after Hope Hicks, one of his closest aides also tested positive. Hicks travelled with Donald Trump on Air Force One to and from the presidential debate in Cleveland which took place on Tuesday.

Donald Trump tweeted, “Tonight,@FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The news of President Trump’s testing positive for the novel Coronavirus came in just hours after the White House announced that senior aide Hope Hicks has been tested positive for COVID-19 after travelling with the president several times in this week.

Trump was last seen by the reporters when he returned to the White House on Thursday evening and appeared to be in good health.

Donald Trump’s age, who is 74 years old, has put him at a higher risk of serious complications from this deadly virus that has now killed more than 2, 00,000 people in the US.

On Friday morning, a memo was released in which Trump’s physician said that the president along with the first lady plans to remain at the White House “during their convalescence” and that the medical unit would “maintain a vigilant watch.”

White House physician Scott Conley had said, “Rest assured I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments,”.

The diagnosis has hit a major blow for the President of the US who has been trying desperately to convince the American public that the worst of the pandemic is behind them even though the number of cases continues to rise with four weeks before Election Day.

This stands as the most serious known public health scare encountered by any sitting American president in recent history.

President Donald Trump had consistently played down the concerns about being personally vulnerable of contracting the novel Coronavirus even though White House staff members and allies were exposed.

Back in May, Donald Trump told, “I felt no vulnerability whatsoever,” the reporters. President Donald Trump has joined the list of world leaders who had tested positive for the virus, which includes Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez. All of them survived, though Johnson became seriously ill.
