  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan appealed to the people of the state to receive both jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine
  • Discounts on liquor will be offered on certain liquor shops only

A whopping discount of 10% is being offered on the purchase of liquor to people who have taken both the jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh. The excise department of the district, on Tuesday, rolled out an order in order to boost the vaccination drive in the region.

The discount will, however, be provided to people at liquor shops located at Sitamau Phatak, Bhuniakhedi and Old Bus Stand. To receive the 10% discount one will have to produce the proof of both doses of COVID-19 vaccination, Mandsaur’s district excise officer Anil Sachan said on Tuesday.

Sachan added that the move from the excise department has been rolled out to attract and encourage liquor consumers towards vaccination.

He added, “Consumers who bring certificates of both doses of Covid vaccination will be given 10 per cent discount on the purchase of liquor.

“Also, special care will be taken to ensure that there is no misuse in the said work”.

In the meantime, the authorities in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh has tightened the rules to buy liquor from stores. The excise department of the district, earlier this month, said that the consumer will not be allowed to buy alcohol if they are not vaccinated against the coronavirus.

ANI quoted the Excise Department officer RP Kirar of the Khandwa District as saying, “No vaccination proof is required…just verbal assurance of being fully vaccinated is enough..those who drink don’t lie…

“According to the instructions given in the meeting called by the district administration Khandwa, at present every citizen has to be vaccinated under the mega vaccination campaign being run for the prevention of coronavirus infection in the district.

“For this it is directed that the sale of liquor from all the 55 country and 19 foreign liquor shops operating in the district should be done only to those persons/consumers who have got both the doses of the vaccine”.

Just last week, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, appealed to the people of the state to receive both the jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine and added, “vaccine is safe and beneficial for both pregnant women and new mothers.”

India, recently, achieved a milestone achievement as the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered crossed 117 crore, as informed by the Central Government on Tuesday.
