Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the nation on 14th April 2020, what was supposed to be the last day of the lockdown imposed across India from 25th March 2020.
He started with remembering BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.
PM Modi, talking about COVID-19 screening said, “Screenings started even before India reported any Covid-19 cases,” and added “We didn’t wait for the problem to get out of hands”.
He applauded the fast action taken by all the governments and India as a whole and said, “With fast action and early lockdown, India has done much better than the bigger nations. The figures from these developed nations show that we are doing much better.”

He has announced that the lockdown will be extended until the 3rd of May to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus.
He said, “Till the 20th of April, all districts, localities, and states will be closely monitored on how strictly they are implementing the norms. States which will not let the hot spots increase they could be allowed to let some important activities resume, however, with certain conditions,”
PM Modi added, “In case of positive development in as per the area or district, we can give a conditional concession from April 20. Having said that, if there will be cases of any violation, development of any new hot spots, those concession will be rolled back in those area”.
While addressing the nation he said, “Keeping in mind the livelihood of our underprivileged brothers and sisters, provision of limited relaxations in identified places from 20th April has been made. Daily wagers and those who depend on daily earning are my family,”.

He asked not to panic as the “Country has enough stock of medicines and ration. Hurdles in the supply chain are constantly been addressed. We are also moving forward rapidly in the field of health infrastructure,”.
Supporting the decision made by the central government, Congress MP, Sashi Tharoor wrote on Twitter, “I support the announcement by PMOIndia Narendra Modi of Lockdown extension. Can’t discard the gains being made. But he should have also announced serious relief for those who cannot make ends meet. MNREGA payments, JanDhan accounts, GST dues to states,&aid to sweeten the pill.”
