Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bollywood fraternity members like Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Javed Akhtar, and Muzaffar Ali mourns the death of legendary music composer Khayyam. Calls it ‘end of a musical era’.
Khayyam, 92, was best known for his work in classic Indian films like Umrao Jaan, Kabhi Kabhie passes away owing to a prolonged illness on Monday in a hospital.
PM Modi tweeted ‘India will remain grateful to Khayyam Sahab for giving us some of the most memorable compositions, which will be remembered forever. He will also be remembered for his humanitarian gestures to support upcoming artists. His demise is extremely saddening’.

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan offered his condolences on Khayyam demise. He went on to Twitter writing ‘T 3262 – .. a legend in music .. a soft spoken amiable soul .. one that contributed to several films and some of the more important ones of mine .. passes away .. KHAYAM sahib .. for all the memorable music he conducted and produced .. prayers condolences’.

Lata Mangeshkar who is if not the, one of the legendary singers in India also took it to Twitter to express how good of a man Khayyan war. She wrote ‘a great musician and composer, a person with gem of a heart is no longer with us. This news is so disheartening that Khayyam ji is no longer with us, and I am short of words to express myself. With Khayyam sir’s death, an era of music has also come to an end. Even lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar wrote on Twitter “Khayyam saheb the great music director has passed away.
