Tahir Hussain, a Councillor, who was suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) moved to the court to surrender has been arrested by the Delhi Police.
Tahir Hussain was on the run after he was linked with the murder of IB (Intelligence Bureau) officer Ankit Sharma in the riots that took over the NorthEast Delhi in February. On Thursday, as Hussain went to a Delhi Court to surrender, was arrested from the parking lot of the court after the court rejected his plea.
As of now, Tahir Hussain is taken to the Crime Branch.
When he spoke to a leading news agency of India, Hussain said that he wanted to surrender before a Delhi Court.
Earlier, Tahir Hussain claimed that he has been a victim of a witch hunt, saying that he is innocent and is a riot victim himself. Tahir Hussain said, “My family and I ran away from rioters and the police were also informed about it. On February 24, I left with my family in the presence of police. The police took possession of the building,” as quoted by the news agency.
Talking about the killing of Ankit Sharma, the IB Officer, Tahir Hussain said that the loss of Ankit Sharma’s life is “sad”. He, however, hopes that the truth will come out after an impartial investigation will be carried out on his case.
Tahir Hussain has been booked under the murder case of Ankit Sharma which happened during the riots in the NorthEast Delhi, and on Tuesday, he moved to a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in the murder case of Ankit Sharma.
However, the district and sessions judge deferred the hearing until Wednesday.
Last month, AAP suspended Tahir Hussain, their councillor, from the primary membership of the political party. The family of Ankit Sharma – the IB Officer who whose body was recovered from a drain near his home in NorthEast Delhi’s riot hit Chand bagh area – accused Tahir Hussain of being behind the killing.
Ankit’s family and neighbours have openly spoken on TV that people from Tahir Hussain’s house came running and hauled and dragged Ankit away from them.
Ankit’s father, Ravinder Sharma, filed a complaint following which an FIR was registered against Tahir Hussain. Tahir Hussain, however, has dismissed all the allegations and said that he had no involvement in the killing of Ankit Sharma. Hussain said, “These are lies and baseless accusations. For our safety, my family and I had moved away from our home in police presence.”
