- Jio added 3.36 lakh operators in Gujarat and becomes the biggest telecom operator in the state
- Jio overtakes Vodafone Idea with now 2.54 users in Gujarat

In under 4 and a half years the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom giant Jio has climbed to the top position with the maximum subscribers in the state of Gujarat.
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) subscription numbers which ended in December 2020, Jio added 3.36 lakh mobile operators in Gujarat and became the largest telecom operator of the circle with a total userbase of 2.54 crore subscribers.
Jio, which started its operations back in September 2016. By end of December 2020, it climbed to the top-most position in the circle. The report from the telecom authority shows that Vodafone Idea lost close to 1.62 lakh subscribers and settled at the second position in Gujarat with 2.5 crore users.
Earlier, Jio had also become the largest revenue-generating operator in the state with more than 45% of revenue market share. Now, it has become the largest operator with maximum customers and a market share of 37.51%.
Keeping Jio apart, only 1 other telecom operator was able to post positive growth of 2.55 lakh subscribers in Gujarat during December. With a total of 1.14 crore user base in Gujarat, Airtel has 16.88% of the customer market share.
Government owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost close to 2.2 lakh subscribers in the state and has an 8.69% market share with close to 59 lkah subscribers.
The total net addition of mobile numbers in Gujarat increased by 2.09 lakh which took the total number to 6.77 crore in December 2020.
Collectively, Jio and Vodafone Idea together had a share of 74.42% in Gujarat.
If we come to pan Indian level, Airtel and Jio were the only gainers of new customers in December 2020. Airtel led the mobile segment as it managed to add of over 40 lakh new customers and Jio added 4.78 lakh, new customers.
