Haryana Readies Itself To Receive COVID-19 Vaccination, 1.9 Lakh Healthcare Workers Will Be Priority

Haryana Government is preparing itself for the COVID-19 vaccination and has prepared data of 1.9 lakh Health Care Workers (HCWs) from both government and private sectors on the Co-WIN portal so that it can implement the COVID-19 vaccine drive, whenever the vaccination of the novel Coronavirus will be available in India.

Rajeev Arora, who is the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Haryana, shared details of how the state is gearing itself for the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine, saying that the Department has identified 1,800 vaccination session sites and over 5,000 vaccinators have already been mapped who will aid in the process of administering the vaccine.

Now, to make sure that the COVID-19 vaccine reaches every district of the state, the state’s health department has deployed 22 insulated Vaccine Vans which will transport the vaccine.

Rajeev Arora said, “Haryana Government has meticulously prepared the vaccine rollout plan and is all set to introduce it,” and added, “the health department is preparing for the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine and will expeditiously roll it out when available.”

He also said, “The platform of the existing Universal Immunisation program of the state with enhanced capacity is being used for the COVID-19 vaccine”.

In Haryana, the vaccination will be provided at dedicated session sites, and the mapping of those vaccination sites is in process. As per the guidelines issued by the Central Government, the COVID-19 vaccination will be done on election model and will have involvement of other departments as well, said the official.

Taking about the availability of Cold Storages for the Vaccine, he said, the state has enough cold chain space to meet the additional requirement posed by the COVID-19 vaccine.

He also said, “Furthermore, the category wise vaccination is to be done in a phased manner. The prior experiences of managing huge campaigns like Measles-Rubella (MR) have been an asset and help the Department in formulating practical plans,” while adding, “Besides this, all districts have been instructed to create additional dry space for storing logistics and majority of districts have already created extra space for the same”.

Talking about the details of the infrastructure for the storage, transportation, and maintaining logistic supply chain for the COVID-19 vaccine, he said, one “State vaccine Store” has already been identified in Kurukshetra and 4 regional vaccine stores have been identified – Gurugram, Hisar, Kurukshetra and Rohtak – additionally, 22 District Vaccine Stores and 659 Cold Chain points have also been mapped.

According to Haryana’s Heath Department’s bulletin from Tuesday, the state has 5,387 active cases of COVID-19.

Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister, said that the country could initiate the vaccination process against COVID-19 from January and the government will keep the vaccine’s efficacy and safety as its top priority.

As per the Health Ministry, India has 9 different COVID-19 vaccines currently under different phases of clinical trials, 6 out of these are under clinical trials and the other 3 are in pre0clinical trials.
