Facebook announced that it is willing to pay select users who are ready to record their voice and give it to them to use it to improve their speech recognition technology. The Verge says that Facebook will pay some select users who are willing to record their voice snippets through their new programme “Pronunciations” which is available in their market research application called Viewpoints.

If you qualify for the programme, you will be asked to record the phrase “Hey Portal” followed by the first name of any of your friends in your Facebook’s friends’ list. The reports said, “You’ll be able to do this with the names of up to 10 friends, and you have to record each statement twice” which was published on Thursday.

This Facebook announcement came when many of its competitors like Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Amazon have paused their audio transcription programmes due to reports which said that some third party contractors were listing to those audios.

Amazon has now given an option to opt-out of audio recording “review” to its users.

Facebook will pay $ 5 or Rs. 360 to a user if he/ she participates in this programme.
