Encounter in Nagrota, Jammu Kashmir: 3 Militants Killed, Cop Injured

Around 5:00 AM on Friday, during a routine inspection of vehicles at Nagrota on the Jammu – Srinagar highway a group of 3-4 militants attacked the police personnel following which the highway was shut.

Three militants were killed in the gun battle while one policeman sustained injuries when the policemen stopped a truck at the Bann toll plaza for inspection and a group of 3-4 militants opened fire at the police.

One of the militant was killed on the spot while others fled to the forest adjacent to the toll plaza said Dilbagh Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir. Following this the highway was immediately shut and a high level search operation was carried out to track them down.

After the gun battle, 2 explosions were heard around the Bann toll plaza where the gun battle between the group of militants and the police force was still active.

The group of militant was on its way to Srinagar when they were intercepted by the police at the Bann toll plaza, said Singh. He continued by saying that these militants were fairly new to the new and were on their way to Srinagar. He said “It is suspected that they infiltrated from Kathua, Hiranagar border”.

According to the officials, a truck was stopped at the Bann Toll Plaza in Nagrota on the Jammu – Srinagar Highway for inspection at around 5:00 AM today. One of the militants has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.

Mukesh Singh, Inspector General (IG) of Police said, “There is a possibility of at least four more terrorists hidden in the area. The area has been cordoned off and the search operation is on”. It is said that these militants are most likely foreigners.
