Hulimavu Lake breach in Bangalore (Bengaluru) affects over 1,000 families as water floods in the locality on Sunday afternoon. According to the officials, the wall of the late was damaged.
As the wall collapsed, the water flooded in the area and the force was such that it swept away two wheelers and cars like they were nothing. Efforts are being made to shift the affected families.
M Gautham Kumar, Mayor said that the reason of catastrophe was carelessness. He said that, allegedly, with the aid of an earthmover, some people tried to put a pipe on the wall. He added, BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) will investigate the event.
Emergency services, Fire service, along with other BBMP officials are undertaking relief works, the affected families are being shifted to a safer places are people are being provided with resources like food, and water.
As the engineers are trying to rectify the breach, the administration have deployed some water-pumps to flush out the water from the basements of residential buildings.
According to Bhagya Lakshmi Murali, BBMP Member, Arekere Ward 193 ‘I was told a contractor had taken up development activities around the lake over the past two days and had tried to drain it by making a small hole in the bund’. She added that the contractor assured ‘he would place sandbags so that the water would not enter residential areas and flow towards storm drain. However, he disappeared after the breach’.
