Highlights:
- The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has stated that fingerprints and an eye scan are not required for children under the age of five to obtain an Aadhaar card.
- However, once the child reaches the age of five, biometrics must be updated on a regular basis.
- The Aadhaar enrolling process for children is quite similar to that for adults, and it may be completed both online and offline.
Children under the age of five are given a blue Aadhaar card by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Parents can now obtain a 12-digit Aadhaar number for their new born child as well. To apply for a Baal Aadhaar card for a newly born baby, parents must submit the child’s birth certificate as well as the Aadhaar card of one of the parents. There is no longer any need for parents to wait for their child’s birth certificate. Instead of a birth certificate, they might apply for their child’s Aadhaar using the discharge slip of their newly born child.
“To enrol your child for #Aadhaar, you only need the child’s birth certificate or the discharge slip from the hospital, and the Aadhaar of one of the parents,” the UIDAI stated on its Twitter account. So, if parents don’t want to wait for the birth certificate, they can apply for a Baal Aadhaar card for their newborn using the hospital discharge certificate and the Aadhaar of one of the parents.

The UIDAI also stated that when a child applies for an Aadhaar card, fingerprints and iris scans are not captured when enrolling children under the age of five; instead, only a photograph is taken. Biometrics must be updated every five years once the child reaches the age of five.
Parents can apply for their child’s Aadhaar card both online and offline. To complete the offline process, go to the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment centre, fill out the form, and submit all required papers.
