Andhra Pradesh Assembly Passes a Bill For Rape Offenders, Names it “Disha Bill”

Today the Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed a bill which will give stricter sentence on rape offences. They named it the “Disha Bill” presumably after Hyderabad’s Vet Doctor who was gang raped and then burned. “Disha Bill” will also be called as Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law Amendment Act 2019.

This bill will grant death sentence for offences of rape, and gang rape. The bill also states that the verdict of such cases should not take longer than 21 days.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet led by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh gave the “Disha Bill” a green flag.

The Bill comes after the henious incident took place in Shamshabad, Telangana on the 27th of November when a Veterinarian Doctor was gang raped by you men and then burned her body in order to destroy evidence.

The victim’s charred body was discovered a day after the crime took place.

On the 6th of December all the four accused of raping the doctor were killed in an encounter with the Police when they were taken to the crime scene for reconstruction of the crime and tried to escape.

  1. This is a great law enacted by the legislature but it has a flaw and that is the higher judiciary which has been with impunity been delaying executions and in many cases commuting death sentences to life in prison. Who will change that?
