On Monday the total number of reported cases of the novel Coronavirus in Delhi crossed 2000 mark as the national capital registered more than 150 cases in the last 24 hours.
The death caused by this pandemic in Delhi has reached 45 and as a 45 days old infant gets admitted at the Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital in Delhi after testing positive for COVID-19 he becomes the youngest case of the entire country.
So in the wake of the widespread of COVID-19, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to not give any relaxation in the lockdown in Delhi for at least 1 week.
The government of Delhi has also identified 79 containment zones and Kejriwal led government has started rapid testing in those zones. The rapis tests would be conducted on those who are engaged in food distribution in the government-run centres, said Delhi CM Kejriwal.
In South Delhi’s Tughlakabad Extension, at least 35 people were tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.
Once the government identifies an area as a containment zone, people from that area are not allowed to step outside of their homes, following which it becomes the responsibility of the state government to ensure people living in those areas gets all the essential items at their doorsteps.

In Delhi, the administration and the police department have created a WhatsApp group where people from these zones can request for the items they need.
On Sunday, Delhi’s CM Kejriwal said that the national capital had “borne the maximum burnt” in the attempt to contain the Coronavirus crisis. Though Arvind Kejriwal repeated that the situation was under control.
The state government will reassess the situation after a week and decide if relaxation could be given or now, said Kejriwal.
He said, “We want to relax it, but if we give relaxations and there is a shortage of ICUs, ventilators, oxygen in hospitals and people lose their lives, we will not be able to forgive ourselves,”.
After Maharashtra, Delhi has the highest number of cases reported of the pandemic in India. As of Tuesday morning, India has reported over 17,500 cases with 559 people out of them having lost their lives to COVID-19. On the 14th of April, the lockdown in India was extended by 19 days to 3rd May 2020 as a strict measure to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus.
