2nd November 2013 was the date when Rohit Sharma made a mark not only on Indian Cricket but World Cricket by scoring a double hundred. On that date he became the 2nd Indian Cricketer to score a double century in ODIs following Sachin Tendulkar (2000). In 2011 Virender Sehwag scored his only double century, but that inning was something in itself.

Fast forward one year, the date is 13th November 2014 and Rohit Sharma becomes the only cricketer to score 2 double centuries in ODI cricket. Along with this, he claimed the title of highest run scorer in ODI cricket which was held by former Women Australian Cricketer Belinda Clark for almost 17 years. Rohit Sharma put a staggering 264 on the scorecard.

In this match, Rohit Sharma hit 33 boundaries and 9 sixes against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Rohit, as always followed his style, he took his time to reach 100, and took 100 balls, but from that point it only took 73 deliveries for Rohit to score the remaining 164 runs.

Rohit broke Virender Sehwag’s record which he held by scoring 219 runs in 2011 at Indore against West Indies.

Sachin Tendulkar was the first person in Men’s Cricket to reach the Everest of a milestone of scoring 200 runs in the year 2000 against South Africa at Gwalior.

ICC shared a picture on their twitter handle reminding people of the feat Rohit has achieved, Captioning the post with ‘The Indian opener smashed 264, the highest ever ODI score’.

In this match, Rohit Sharma could have gone back to the pavilion with just 4 runs to his name, Rohit tried to hit the ball out of the park but as the ball did not make the proper contact with the bat, the ball fell short a few metres of the boundary. The ball travelled to Thisara Perera, Sri-Lankan all-rounder but unfortunately for them the catch was dropped.

After scoring 201, Rohit was involved in a mix up which ended with Virat Kohli losing his wicket as a run out with 66 runs on the board. As an angry young man, Virat was seen giving a cold look to Rohit as he was walking back to the stands.

With the help of Rohit’s 264 and Virat’s 66, India put up a tally of 404 runs after 50 overs and managed to send the entire Sri Lankan team back to the stands with just 251 on the scoreboard.

A Twitter user pointed out a very interesting fact:

In 2017, Rohit, once again, hit a double hundred and remained not-out until the end of the innings. In the match against, guess who, Sri Lanka, he scored 208* runs in Mohali.
