At the event where this video was shot, a 10th grade student requested the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, to enlighten the audience with a new word, given that Tharoor is regarded as a ‘Fount of exotic vocabulary’ not only in India, but globally. The student asked ‘As you have been globally acknowledged as a man of vocabulary I would like you to give me and the crowd a new word for us to learn’.
The reply to this request was not only savage but also educational. The word he shared with the audience present was ‘read’.
Tharoor said, ‘I will give you a very simple, very old word, read. He added ‘that is the only way I acquired a vocabulary. People think I am some sort of nutcase who studies dictionaries all day long. I have barely opened a dictionary in my life. But I have read extensively. The reason I was like this is because I lived in an India without television, without computer, without Nintendo, without Play Station, without mobile phones. All I had were books’.
Tharoor’s advice left the audience surprised and mesmerized. Soon after the video surfaced, the Twitteratis started sharing the tweet and some of the users replied how important of a life lesson he shared so casually, without making a big deal out of it.

Well said sir! I did same and felt similar.. But the way you put it is real manifestation of exhortation to youth to come forward for reading.. God bless you.. I don't agree with you on many things but same time admire you on many..
