Divyanka Tripathi Opens Up About Her Experience With “Casting Couch” And Her Big Break

The popular face of the Indian Television industry, Divyanka Tripathi shared her experiences on how she dealt with the casting couch in her initial days. Divyanka said that pretty much everyone new to the industry had to go through it. She was a newcomer looking for a big break and was asked to spend time with a director for the role. People threatened to ruin her career if she did not adhere to the demands, said Divyanka.

She started her career with All India Radio, Bhopal as an anchor. She also bagged the title of Miss Beautiful Skin in the Pantene Zee Teen Queen contest in 2003. Dibyanka in 2006, was roped in for Zee TV’s drama fiction, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann where she enacted a dual role. The show was a hit and she gained recognition for her performance and her on-screen chemistry with Sharad Malhotra. Her performance in the show was commendable and she won the Indian Television Academy Award for Best Actress in the Drama category.

Divyanka said that during her struggle period, she was unable to pay her bills and EMIs and that the situation was very bad. People offered her roles on the condition that she would have to spend time with the director after which she would get a big break. When she questioned this, they would say that if she did not agree to this then she would fall behind others and also that her career would be ruined. All of this happened prior to the #MeToo movement, said Divyanka.

Divyanka was aware that all of this was an utter nuisance. she landed her first job based on her talent and knew that her future projects too would be because of her skill set. Divyanka also starred in Ekta Kapoor’s Yeh Hai Mohabbatein opposite Karan Patel. She won the dance-based reality show, Nach Baliye season 8. She was also the runner up of season 11 of the colour’s based action/reality tv show Khatron Ke Khiladi.
