Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates the country’s first world-class railway station in Bhopal during his visit to Madhya Pradesh for a tribal convention marking the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ in memory of the tribal icon and freedom fighter Birsa Munda. The revamped railway station, Rani Kamalapati Railway Station was inaugurated by the PM at around 3 pm. Formerly known as Habibganj Railway station, the new name has been given after the valiant queen of Gond, Rani Kamalapati, says Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Additional initiatives benefitting the people of Madhya Pradesh shall also be launched in the Railway sector, said, Modi. The station has been constructed with cutting edge futuristic amenities like a large covered parking area, air-conditioned lobbies, VIP lounge, escalators, lifts, anchor stores, automobile showrooms, super speciality hospitals, etc. to furnish an airport-like feel to all travellers.

The redevelopment operation took 3 years to complete at an expense of 450 crores. It is equipped with separate entry and exit gates to manage the crowd at all times.  The station has been built by a private company under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The entire cycle from planning to design to construction has been done based upon the ‘green building’ concept bears in mind the ease of mobility for the disabled.

The station boasts of a seating arrangement capacity of 700 to 1,100 passengers. Display boards with divergent languages have been installed throughout the station which provides information on train movements. Endeavouring to spread awareness about the tourism and culture of the state, a tourist information lounge with a large LED screen has been set up in the waiting hall on the first floor.

Coffee-table books, brochures, leaflets and other literature centred around tourism and culture shall be accessible at the station. The station has been constructed along the lines of Germany’s Heidelberg Railway station.

The railway station has earned a GEM 5-star rating in GEM Sustainability Certification by ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India)for its sustainable and eco-friendly approach.
