  • Wife of Bollywood producer Feroz Nadiadwala arrested by NCB
  • When raided, 10 grams of marijuana was found from their Mumbai home
  • She has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act

On Sunday, wife of Bollywood producer Firoz Nadiadwala was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) when the investigators found 10 grams of marijuana at their home in Mumbai during a raid, as per the officials.

The NCB Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede said that Firoz Nadiadwala was summoned by the anti-drugs regulatory agency earlier in the day but he did not comply with the summoning.

Wankhede added, “We have arrested Firoz Nadiadwala”s wife under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is on,”.

Earlier the residence of the Nadiadwalas was raided by a team of NCB officials who seized the marijuana, officials said.

The contraband product had been purchased from an accused identified as Wahid Abdul Kadir Sheikh alias Sultan who was arrested earlier by the NCB, they said.

The officials said, “Firoz Nadiadwala’s wife Shabana Saeed was issued a notice under section 67 of the NDPS Act. She was arrested after her statement was recorded,”.

Earlier the Narcotics Control Bureau had arrested 4 people in its attempt of a crackdown on the drug dealers and their clients who are being said to be linked with the Hindi Film Industry.

The crackdown by the NCB on the Bollywood industry began during the investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case in June when his then girlfriend Rhe Chakraborty, an actress, was alleged of helping the actor with drugs.

Ever since many Bollywood celebrities including the likes of Deepika Padukone, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor along with several others have been called in by the NCB for questioning in the case and drug use in the industry.

As per reports, the mandate of the NCB is to go after the bigger drug cartels and not just the individual consumers and it has been summoning the A-listers from the Bollywood industry to understand the network of supply through the alleged consumers.

The investigation which has been carried out by the NCB has channelled a wave of abuse and hate at Bollywood from a section of social media and news networks forced the film industry to speak out last month.

A lawsuit was filed by leading filmmakers of the Bollywood industry which included Aamir Khan, Aditya Chopra, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Farhan Akhtar, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in the Delhi High Court asking the two news channels – Republic TV and Times Now – to refrain from “irresponsible reporting” and vilification.
