The Iconic Show Of 1987 “Ramayana” Is All Set To Re-Telecast From Tomorrow

Indian Television’s most iconic serial from the late 80s, the “Ramayana” is all set to make a return to your TV sets with a hint of the childhood nostalgia. The hit TV serial will be re-telecasted starting from 28th March 2020 amind the 21-day lockdown which was implemented on pan Indian level.

The TV series, Ramayana, which originally ran from January of 1987 to July of 1988 will be re-telecasted on the DD National.  When the show originally ran from 1987 to 1988, on Sunday mornings, the streets remained virtually deserted as a majority of the people in India glued to their TV sets to watch the show, and this was a time when people did not have TV, they would go to their neighbors.

Now, after more than 3 decades, the streets of the country are empty again, however, the reason is different, as the whole country is under a 21-day lockdown in a fight against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of India, today, tweeted “Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting to retelecast of ‘Ramayana’ from tomorrow, Saturday, March 28 in DD National,”.

According to the tweet, one episode of Ramayana will be telecasted in the morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and then another episode will be aired in the night from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayana” features Arun Govil as Ram, Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Laxman, Dara Singh as Hanuman, and Arvind Trivedi as Raavan.

Thousands and Lakhs of people urged the government on various social media platforms to consider a re-telecast of the mythological serial.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati CEO (Chief Executive Officer) at Prasar Bharati India’s Public Broadcaster said that a dedicated team at DD Office has worked day and night to make the re-telecast of the iconic show “Ramayan” possible as they had to stay away from their homes and families.

Vempati also hinted that some more iconic shows may make a comeback on Doordarshan. In a tweet, Vempati said, “Stay tuned for more iconic content to come back on Doordarshan over the next few days as you relive the nostalgia while we observe the Lockdown,”.

In another tweet, Vempati thanked the Sagar family for their service to the Nation and mobilized their resources and made the content available.
