  • The music video honours Chadwick Boseman.

Rihanna surprised her fans with some new songs for the first time in six years. Lift Me Up, a beautiful slow ballad that will feature in the upcoming MCU movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is the hip-hop star’s return to music.

Rihanna gave a sneak peek of Lift Me Up on Friday. In it, she can be seen in a white, rustic room wearing only a nightgown while two kids bring her to a dark room with a blue glowing table, where she later changes into a queen.

The song’s promotional video was shared by Rihanna on October 26. It featured just the word “R” flashing on the screen as the release date appeared in metallic gold.

The slow tempo song is allegedly Rihanna’s tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020. He had a role in the original Black Panther movie and was scheduled to reprise in the sequel. On November 11th, 2022, Wakanda Forever will be released.

The promo featured a snippet of the movie that soon switches to Rihanna standing on the beach, then fading to black with “Lift Me Up” written across the screen.
