Highlights:

  • A notice has been issued to Bobby Deol & Prakash Jha by Jodhpur Court for a controversial representation of Hindu saints in Aashram
  • Aashram Chapter 2: The Dark Side had released on November 11 which is based on a self-styled godman played by Bobby Deol and directed by Prakash Jha
  • For the controversial representation of Hindu saints in it the series has drawn criticism

A recently released web series Aashram, which made Jodhpur court send a notice on Monday, sought stands of filmmaker Prakash Jha and actor Bobby Deol on a plea taking offence to the controversial depiction of Hindu saints.

Deol played the central role in the MX Player web series, similar to some self-styled godmen convicted for various criminal offences and serving prison terms in different parts of the country, including Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

Jodhpur District and Session Judge Ravindra Joshi, has listed the matter for hearing on 11 January after the notice issued to Prakash Jha and Bobby Deol.

The petition was filed by local resident Khush Khandelwal against the web series Aashram, resembling the name of a convicted godman.

Deol’s depiction as a Hindu saint has hurt the religious feelings of Hindus who honor and worship saints. The position saints hold for Hindus has diminished due to his portrayal as a rapist, corrupt and drug dealer, Khandelwal contended in his petition.

Khandelwal had previously lodged a complaint with the police demanding the registration of an FIR against the duo, but with the police refused to lodge any complaint, with the same plea he approached the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate.

After ACJMM too dismissing his plea Khandelwal approached the Jodhpur district and session judge, questioning the judgment of the ACJJM.

On November 11, the second season of Aashram, Aashram Chapter 2 — The Dark Side was released in which the controversial depiction of Hindu saints in it has drawn criticism.

A social media campaign was also launched, calling the webseries “Aashram” a spiteful depiction of ‘ashrams’ and Hindu religious culture.

Karni Sena also sent the producers of Aashram a legal notice.
