Jagan Shakti’s Mission Mangal, starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya, has crossed the Rs 100-crore mark within five days of its release. It hit the screens on Independence Day.

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan’s Mission Mangal is minting money at the box office.

When Akshay Kumar signed Mission Mangal, little did he know that the film will turn out to be his biggest opener so far. Jagan Shakti’s Mission Mangal, which hit the screens on Independence Day, has struck gold at the box office. The film based on India’s Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission has crossed the Rs 100-crore mark within five days of its release.

The film, which opened at Rs 29.16 crore on August 15, made Rs 97.56 crore in its extended opening weekend. And going by the early estimates, Mission Mangal passed the Monday test with flying colours.

Jagan Shakti-directed film has made Rs 10 crore (approx) on Monday, thus taking the five-day collection to Rs 107.56 crore (approx).

Despite competition from John Abraham’s Batla House at the ticket windows, Mission Mangal is doing exceptionally well. In fact, recently John Abraham sent a congratulatory message to his Desi Boyz co-star over the box-office success of Mission Mangal. The Batla House actor told Mid-Day that Akshay Kumar’s reply won him over, when he said, “I am happy for you too. It’s time we work together.”

Talking about his equation with Akshay, John added, “It’s so nice and healthy when the camaraderie is not competitive but healthy. Both films are being appreciated.”

If Akshay’s Mission Mangal is unstoppable at the box office, John Abraham’s Batla House, too, has crossed the Rs 50-crore mark.

Akshay, who has once again locked horns with John Abraham, opened up at the box-office clash. “In a year, more than 180 Hindi films release and then there are about 30 to 40 Hollywood films as well so there would be a lot of congestion. In the future, there will be more problems as maybe at that time four to five films may clash at the same time. There is no element of surprise in this and we should not blame anybody or blame each other and just go along with it,” Akshay said at Mission Mangal trailer launch.

Mission Mangal tells the incredible story of country’s first interplanetary mission – Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). Directed by Jagan Shakti, Mission Mangal also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Taapse Pannu, Kriti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi.

With Mission Mangal entering the Rs 100-crore club within five days of its release, the film seems unstoppable at the box office.
