The former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, announced that he has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus, this afternoon, while he was on a hospital visit for a separate procedure.

In the tweet, Pranab Mukherjee, who served as the President of India between 2012 and 2017, requested all the people who came in his contact in the last 7 days to go under self-isolation as a precautionary measure and get a COVID-19 test.

In India, more than 22 lakh people have been infected by this deadly virus.

The 84 year old former President of India tweeted, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19. #CitizenMukherjee,”.

Within minutes of his posting the news about him getting infected with COVID-19, tweets poured on the social media with the Chief Minister of Delhi saying, “Please take care sir. We are praying for your speedy recovery and good health @CitiznMukherjee (Pranab Mukherjee)”.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal also tweeted saying, “I pray for the well being and speedy recovery of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I am confident he will be successful in recovering from the virus quickly. Wishing him strength and good health”.

The official website of the 84 year old former President of India says, “A prolific reader, Pranab Mukherjee has authored several books on the Indian Economy and on Nation Building. The many awards and honours conferred on him include India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhusan in 2008, the Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997 and Best Administrator in India Award in 2011,”.

Having said all this, Pranab Mukherjee is not the only top politician of the country who have tested positive for the deadly virus, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa, Congress leader Siddaramaiah, have all tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few weeks.

Currently, India is the 3rd worst impacted country by this pandemic with the United States of America being the worst hit country and Brazil being the 2nd.

Today, India crossed 22 lakh COVID-19 patients, which comes after just 4 days of reaching 20 lakh mark.

More than 44,000 people have lost their lives in India since its outbreak including police officers and medical professionals.

India has been recording a bigger single-day jump in fresh cases of the novel Coronavirus than the United States and Brazil since the last six days.
