On July 25, Droupadi Murmu, the NDA candidate in the 2022 presidential elections, took the oath to become the new president of India, the nation’s new leader has created history by achieving a long list of firsts.

Murmu, who is now India’s 15th president, made history by becoming the first person of a tribal community to hold the office. In addition, she succeeded Pratibha Patil as the second woman to hold the office of President of India.

At the ceremony for taking the oath, President Droupadi Murmu said: “Standing in the Parliament – the symbol of expectations, aspirations, and rights of all Indians – I humbly express my gratitude to all of you. Your trust and support will be a major strength for me to carry out this new responsibility.”

In the Central Hall of the Parliament, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath that President Droupadi Murmu took in the presence of prominent figures including former President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and VP Venkaiah Naidu.

Prior to oath, Murmu and outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind entered parliament in a ceremonial procession. The Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, M. Venkaiah Naidu, and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, accompanied Murmu to the Central Hall.
