Kasthuri Raja, Dhanush’s father, has described his son’s split from wife Aishwaryaa as a “family quarrel,” and has refuted any rumours of a divorce. This comes after actor Dhanush and Aishwaryaa, a filmmaker and eldest daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, announced their split on social media.

Kasthuri Raja stated in an interview with the Dailythandhi newspaper that Dhanush and Aishwaryaa parted owing to a disagreement. “It is a family quarrel that usually takes place between a married couple.” According to Raja, this is not a divorce. He went on to say that they were not in Chennai, but rather in Hyderabad. He said to have given them advice as well.

They married in 2004 and have two sons, Yatra and Linga. On Monday night, they issued a statement announcing their divorce. Dhanush first met Aishwaryaa on the day his film Kadhal Kondaen was released.

“Eighteen years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this. Om Namashivaaya! Spread love, D,” Dhanush shared a note on Twitter.

Aishwaryaa posted the same statement on Instagram, captioning it, “No caption needed, only your understanding and love necessary!”

Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have worked together in 3, the latter’s directorial debut. The psychological thriller featured a song called Kolaveri Di, which went viral. Dhanush, a well-known Tamil actor, made his Bollywood debut in Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa. He recently appeared in another film directed by him, Atrangi Re, alongside Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan. Dhanush earned a National Film Award for Best Actor for Asuran last year.
