At least 24 people have been reported dead and 4 others have sustained injuries as a private bus travelling on the Kota – Dausa Highway in Bundi District of Rajasthan fell in the Mej River.
The bud was carrying a wedding party of 28 people to Sawai Madhopur from Kota today morning when the driver, allegedly, lost control of the vehicle when the bus was crossing a bridge news Papdi village which comes under Lekhari Police Station, said Rajendra Kumar, Sub- Inspector at Lekhari Police station while speaking to a leading news agency over the phone.
Sub- Inspector Kumar said that the bus fell into the Mej River from the bridge as it had no fencing or railing. Adding, that 13 people died on the spot and 10 people succumbed to the injuries while they were en-route to the hospital.
In the 24 dead, 11 were men, 10 were women, and 3 were children. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot tweeted saying “I am deeply saddened to learn about the tragic accident in #Bundi in which 24 people have lost lives after the bus fell into river Mej.. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loves ones in this tragedy. I wish speedy recovery to all injured”.

The injured were taken to the Lekhari government hospital and the ones who were critically injured were referred to a Kota government hospital said Kumar. Adding to this he said, most of the people were rescued with the help of the locals in the village.
