On Wednesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said it will launch a geo imaging satellite – GISAT-1 – through GSLV-F10 on the 5th of March 2020 from its Satish Space Centre which is in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. ISRO said that the tentative time of launch is scheduled at 5:43 PM which may change depending upon the weather condition.

ISRO said, “Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F10) will launch geo imaging satellite (GISAT-1) from the second launch pad of the SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. The launch is tentatively scheduled at 1743 Hrs IST on March 05, 2020, subject to weather conditions”.

The GISAT-1 is a state of the art agile Eart observation satellite which weighs over 2,000 kilograms and will be positioned in “geosynchronous transfer orbit” by the GSLV-F10. After that, the GISAT-1 satellite will reach the final geostationary orbit through the propulsion system installed onboard.

GSLV will be flying for the 14th time on the 5th of March and it will be the 1st occasion where a 4 metre diameter ogive shape payload fairing will be flown using it. ISRO added, “Operating from geostationary orbit, GISAT-1 will facilitate near real time observation of the Indian sub continent, under cloud free condition, at frequent intervals”.
