Tapas Pal who was in Mumbai to visit his daughter was at the airport for his flight back to Kolkata, but he complained of chest pain following which he was rushed to a hospital in Juhu where he took his last breath at around 4:00 AM in the morning.
In the past two years he had visited the hospital and even hospitalised in some cases because of his heart ailments. The Veteran Bengali actor Ranjit Mallick called Pal’s demise as “untimely” saying “I am yet to come to terms with the news. Yes, he was not keeping well for some time”.
Tapas Pal was born in Chandannagar, West Bengal and completed his graduation in Bio-Science from the Hooghly Mohsin College. In 1980 Pal debuted in the Bengali film industry (Tollywood) with the movie Dadar Kirti which was directed by Tarun Majumdar. The fil also starred Sandhya Roy, Mahua Roychoudhary, and Debashree Roy. Debashree Roy has shared screen with Tapas Pal on multiple occasion including movies like Nishantey, Samapti, Sundar Bou, Agaman, and Chhokher Aloy.
Just 4 years after his debut in the Bengali Film Industry, he made his way into Bollywood. In 1984 he starred in Abodh which was directed by Hiren Nag, and acted opposite to Madhuri Dixit. Just like Pal, it was Madhuri Dixit’s debut film in Bollywood as well.
Tapas Pal career was long, and in over 30 years he had worked with some big names in the industry such as Soumitra Chatterjee, Mousumi Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and even Raakhee.
Tapas Pal is survived by his wife Nandini and their daughter Sohini Paul.
