Mangalore Airport At High Alert As Abandoned Bag Found Outside Terminal

Today, the Mangalore airport was on high alert a suspicious abandoned laptop bag was found outside the terminal. The bag is said to contain components of low intensity IED (Improvised Explosive Device).

According to sources, the black laptop bag was found at around 8:45 am (0845 Hours) IST and the BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) immediately rushed to the site.

“The bag contained all components of IED — battery, wire, timer, switch, detonator and explosive. An alert has been sounded at Mangalore Airport. BDDS and police are searching the terminal building,” said sources.

After the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) looked through the CCTV footage of the terminal building’s vicinity it was found that “One person approached the airport in an auto-rickshaw and kept the bag near booking counter of IndiGo. He left the airport in the same rickshaw” The Air India’s booking counter is right next to that of IndiGo counter.

An official with information of the development said “It appears to be a crude IED, most probably very low intensity. Local police are determining the components.”The person who kept the bag outside the terminal has not been identified as of now.
