The police in Lucknow were able to disperse the protesters with the help of tear gas and batons (Lathi) as the people protesting against CAA in Lucknow set vehicles parked outside the police post on fire and started pelting stones and brick pieces on police personnel during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA).
Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh, Om Prakash Singh told a leading news agency that cops were left with no other options to fire tear-gas in order to control the situation in Madeyganj, Lucknow. He said that the police have taken around 20 people involved in CAA protest in Lucknow into their custody.

Tension in various parts of Lucknow increased, especially in the Old City (Purana Lucknow) areas and the police personnel were facing difficulties in keeping the people under control and maintain law and order. Many senior police officers were sent to areas disrupted by protests.
Protests in high numbers assembled at the Hussainganj, and Koneshwar crossing and somehow initiated a clash with the policemen present there, additionally, clashes with police personnel also surfaced from Teele Wali Masjid, Hussainabad, Daliganj, and even Chotta Imambara, claimed the leading news agency.
Moreover, sources from Congress party told the news agency that Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Kumar Lallu was detained while he was leading a protest in Parivartan Chowk, near DM’s (District Magistrate) office, against the CAA claiming that the law is discriminatory.

Police baton charged (lathi charged) the protesters and many Congress part workers were taken in the custody. Party workers of Samajwadi Party also clashed with policemen. With protests at many places and some of them even turning violent, the capital of UP was brought down to its knees as the city’s traffic came to a halt.
In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, many state run and private vehicles were set on fire by people protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 (CAA). Internet services have also been suspended in West UP district. Additionally, in Kushinagar, protesters pelted stones at the cops following which cops had to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
