In a video which has gone viral on Twitter where a large crowd can be seen at a prominent tourist location in Goa, despite a concerning Covid rise. Since late December, Goa has experienced a significant influx of tourists, with revellers coming to the coastal state for the Christmas-New Year celebration season.
According to authorities, the large number of tourists has pushed up the COVID-19 positive rate, which reached 10% on Sunday.
“This is a Royal welcome to the Covid wave. Mostly tourists,” the Twitter user, who goes by the handle @Herman_Gomes, wrote.

According to the Health Ministry, 388 people in Goa have tested positive in the previous 24 hours.
The new Covid cases brought the total in the coastal state to 1,81,570, with one fatality bringing the total to 3,523, it stated.
Thousands of domestic tourists flocked on Goa’s beaches, bars, and nightclubs to celebrate the New Year, despite the government imposing stricter restrictions to combat the latest variant of the coronavirus.
State officials have directed hotels, restaurants, and casinos to allow only visitors who have valid vaccination certificates or evidence of a negative test result.
