BS Yediyurappa, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, announced his decision to resign today, putting an end to months of uncertainty.
“I have decided to resign. I will meet the Governor after lunch,” Mr. Yediyurappa, 78, said in a tearful speech at the Vidhan Sabha that he has been constantly tested in the two years of his fourth term – which may be his last, given the BJP’s 75-year age limit for posts. He strolled over to the building next door and handed in his resignation shortly after.
He told reporters, “I am grateful to the party for giving me this opportunity even after (I turned) 75 years (sic).”

Although the announcement was expected, Yediyurappa kept everyone wondering until yesterday.
BS Yediyurappa wept when he spoke at his government’s two-year anniversary today.
The names of various leaders have been floating about for the important position in Karnataka amid concerns about a leadership transition and the departure of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
For several months, the Panchamasali Lingayat community has demanding the removal of chief minister.
The demand for a Dalit Chief Minister has intensified in the BJP in the previous two weeks. Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and B Sriramulu, both Dalit politicians, are also running for chief minister.
Some BJP MLAs asked that Yediyurappa resign as chief minister last month. In a statement, State Tourism Minister CP Yogeeshwara claimed that his son has been dominating and controlling Karnataka’s Ministries instead of the Chief Minister.
