Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for the “strictest action against the accused” in the Hathras gang-rape case where a 20 year old girl was also tortured Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, said Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, today amidst a nationwide outrage over the horrific incident.
A three-member panel has already been set up to investigate the crime, the Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister said, adding that the panel has been asked to submit its report within seven days.
Yogi Adityanath has also asked for the trial to be conducted in a fast-track court.
The special investigating team for this case will be headed by the Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop along with the Inspector General of Police Chandraprakash and IPS officer Poonam.
On Monday morning, the 20 year old woman succumbed to her injuries in Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. She had suffered multiple fractures, paralysis and a gash in her tongue in the horrific assault that drew parallels to the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape on various social media platforms.

On Monday night the 20 year old was cremated by the policemen and the family and relatives were allegedly locked up in their homes during the cremation.
A disturbing sequence of events captured in overnight visuals shows the family arguing with the policemen, and female relatives of the deceased throwing themselves on the hood of the ambulance carrying the body to stop them from the cremation of the body. The mother was weeping helplessly as cops insist on taking her daughter straight to the cremation, without allowing the last look.
All of the 4 accused, upper-caste men from the same village the women hailed from, have been put behind bars, they will now also be charged with murder.
The Uttar Pradesh Police department is facing heavy scrutiny over the alleged lapse in this case, initially, the police registered an attempt to murder case but added rape charges only after the woman’s formal statement.
On Monday, a senior police officer said that rape had not been confirmed and they were waiting for a forensic report.
